Case Studies

Captive Feasibility Report for major Scandinavian Bank

Working with a Singaporean advisory partner we assisted a Chinese based healthcare service provider that had decided to establish a new reinsurance company in Bermuda to allow them to provide additional capacity to their programs.  Over an 18 month period, we guided them through the business planning and implementation stages with a highly respected Bermuda based insurance manager. Their license was granted in January 2023.

Bermuda based Chinese Reinsurance Company

Working with our partners at RISCS, we led the feasibility report project for one of the largest Scandinavian banks, who sought advise on whether and where to establish a new captive structure for both their first and third party risks.  This 4 month project culminated in a board level report sponsored by the Bank’s CRO.  We considered numerous jurisdictions (both within the EU and internationally), the structure the captive could take and what would be the most suitable lines of insurances to place into their captive over the first years of its operation.

Guernsey based risk bearing cell for UK MGA

Having been recommended by a UK based actuarial firm, in late 2021 we began working with a specialist UK based MGA to advise them on what might be the most suitable structure to allow them to gain additional underwriting capacity at a time of increased rates and carrier withdrawal from their particular specialty lines.  Having considering alternative capital (including ILS) it was agreed that they would fund (from their private equity backers) their own risk retention vehicle in Guernsey that would participate proportionally on all of their non-compulsory lines of insurance.

Direct insurance capacity for US based MGA

Working with our partners at Corpus, we marketed and sourced over $20m of “A+” rated insurance capacity (GWP basis) for the US operations of one of the largest MGAs globally.   We negotiated this deal on a 3 year basis and continue to support both the MGA and the carrier in marketing and business development.
